Akans of Ghana-Their History, their Theology and their Contributions
Ghana is located in West Africa on the coast of the Gulf of Guinea. Modern Ghanaians are descendants of immigrants from different parts of Africa, including the ancient empire of Ghana. Modern Ghana came to be known as the Gold Coast because Ghanaians traded gold for European goods with the arrival of the European traders in the 15th century, Ghana is home to AKAN and other indigenous Tribes.
Akan people of Ghana are culturally rich in ancient theological concepts. Akan people are among many of numerous African tribes who have managed to retain many of their rich ancient traditions in the face of colonialism and post independence development.
Though European missionaries replaced some aspect of African culture, providence has managed to preserve a people in the heart of the continent who have kept the Concepts of the Creator God in their Oral Tradition handed down from generation to generation.
They used gold very extensively like the Jews to decorate their temple properties because of its great value, but the Akan Tribes which make up a major percentage of Ghana's population, were the unlikely custodians of an even greater treasure of Biblical Proportions; the Biblical Redemption Concept, Sacrificial System with its blood Atonement and many other ancient Pillars of Theology.
In the Oral Traditional culture of the Akan People of Ghana is the Gospel of Jesus encoded in Symbolic form. And all of these are captured in the book Africa's Roots in God.
